Burglary: Villas East 5/10/2016

A burglary has been reported on CrimeMapping.com (PD160510176037) for a home located at SW 110TH ST CIR W. Several residents called, texted and emailed us concerning a police presence on Circle West with one resident letting us know it was due to a burglary. Although the owner of the affected unit did not contact us, we were told by officers that there had indeed been a burglary a little before 11 AM on 5/10. We were told that the crime was committed by a pair of individuals that gained entry to the home through a window in the front of the home. The owner of the unit was home and asleep at the time of the burglary and was not aware of the burglary that was in progress. The burglars stole jewelry and other items from the home and exited through the front door. An alert neighbor noticed something odd and contacted Police however the suspects were long gone by the time they arrived.

Please stay alert for any suspicious activity. The basic rule of thumb is if you see a possible crime in progress, call 9-1-1. If you wish to report suspicious activity, please call the non-emergency number at (305) 476-5423. Please pay particular attention to individuals loitering in the guest parking areas or other parts of the community and if observe anyone circling around the community that should not be there, walking in and around homes or just someone who seems out of place, please contact Police. Miami Dade Police is now authorized to ask anyone to leave the property that has no business in the community. After you contact Police, please let us know as well by using our Contact Us page. Update: May 14, 2016
This is correction and update to this story.

We spoke with the owner today. She stated that the burglar jumped the rear fence and forced the rear window open not the front window as we reported earlier. The other suspect remained in a Grey Honda civic in guest parking by that home and later moved to the front of the home. Two homeowners noticed the incident and called police right away. Two ladies that were nearby were able to get the tag number of the vehicle, however police determined that the vehicle was reported stolen. Upon hearing sirens, the burglar in the house exited the front door were the grey civic was waiting for him, leaving the front door wide open. Due to alert neighbors the burglar left with only a few items of jewelry due to the short amount of time they stayed in the unit. Although the owner is a little shaken up because her son was home asleep at the time, she wanted to thank everyone for their help. Neighbors being alert ensured that things did not end up too badly for her and her family.

Theft: Villas East 5/3/2016

A member contacted us to let us know that they have had several orchids stolen from the front of their home over the last couple of weeks.  This weekend, the homeowner stood watch overnight and observed a dark blue or black colored mid-sized vehicle drive up to her home and begin taking photos of her orchids with their cell phone.  When she confronted that person, they jumped into their car and sped away.  She did observe that individuals license plate number, but is not 100% sure she got the right number. Residents are asked to be on the lookout for a dark blue or black colored mid-sized vehicle on the property with a plate number of EWV-115 exhibiting suspicious behavior and if spotted on the property, please call Police. Car Break-In/Theft: Villas East 4/4-5/2016

We are starting to receive reports of the car break-ins that occurred on 4/4/2016 and 4/5/2016.  Homeowners affected by these break-ins did not contact us regarding these crimes so we do not know what sections on East were affected. There were three cars in total reported to Police so far affecting our community with many more reports from residents living in Devon-Aire Estates between 106th ST & 104th ST.  This is no doubt related to the Police chase and subsequent lock down of the West side of the community on 4/5/2016 between 4AM - 9AM in which we sent out alerts on Nextdoor.com.  A news story was later reported by Local10 News (Click Here) about the event. Unfortunately Police were unable to apprehend the suspect.  There has been an increased Police presence in this area for the last couple of months as they look for the individuals responsible for these car burglaries in our area.

Don't become a victim.  Always make sure to lock your cars, especially before turning in for the night.  Always make sure that all items of value are never left in cars at anytime.  These car burglars usually only break into vehicles which have been left unlocked so don't do them any favors. If you are ever a victim of a crime, please take the time to file a police report. We know that calling police to file report can be time consuming, however Miami Dade County Police now allow you to file a report for certain types of crimes online.  Click Here if you need to file a police report.  If a report is not filed, there is no way that police can establish trends to help mitigate these types of crimes.  You may also file a report by phone by calling (305) 4-POLICE (476-5423).

It goes without saying that if suspicious activity is occurring on or around the property, residents are urged to please contact Police immediately by calling their non emergency number at (305) 4-POLICE (476-5423).  If you believe that a crime is in progress, please call 911.  Do not attempt make contact with any person engaging in suspicious activity and instead let Police handle the situation.
