Vandalism: Devon-Aire Villas #1 Park West

This past Friday we discovered that someone took the time to go to the West side park and hacked down one of the trees that were planted last year to replace the ones lost over time.  They also seemed to have damaged one of the palm trees a little ways past the park close to 109th Lane.  Damages due to vandalism is money out of every member's pocket in the long run and leads to increases in the annual assessment.  Damages total around $600 in the loss of the tree plus replacement costs.  Please help keep those costs down by staying alert and should you witness anyone damaging community property, please let us know right away.

Update: Crime Watch Meeting: 2/19/2015

We would like to thank everyone that attended the Crime Watch meeting today especially considering how cold it was.  The attending officer, Officer Aluart, went over crime statistics for our grid for the time period of 11/1/2014 to 2/12/2015 and over all it wasn't to bad.  Officer Aluart passed out a brochure on how to spot fraud and how to protect yourself.  Should anyone want a copy, please let us know.  He advised those in attendance that there has been a surge in IRS related fraud over the last few months.  The fraud is perpetrated by someone calling your home and then pretending to be an IRS official with the number they are calling from sometimes appearing like originates from Washington, DC or Virginia.  He stated that should you receive such a call to just hang up or don't pick up the call since the IRS would never call you out of the blue.  The IRS has put out a news bulletin about the issue.  Click Here for more information.

Officer Aluart also spoke about an increase in car tire/rim thefts over the last few months.  He stated that the thieves are quick and seem to be targeting 2012 model cars and newer.  He advised residents that want to try and prevent the theft of their tires/rims to buy some wheel locks.  He said he has also seen individuals place more than one wheel lock on their tires to deter theft.  He did say that if you do apply wheel locks, please be sure to hide the keys and not place them anywhere obvious in the car.  Hiding the key with the spare tire or the glove compartment is the first place thieves will start to look.

Officer Aluart closed the meeting by saying that if anyone has a suspicion on possible crime activity to please call (305) 471-TIPS (8477) and report your concern.

Recycle Pickup Issues Update 2/17/2015

This is an update on the recycle issues residents in our community have been experiencing for the last few months.  This weeks scheduled pickup only occurred on the West side of the community.  Pickup for the 162 homes on the East side did not occur as scheduled.  311 was again called due to the missed recycle pickup.  Residents on the East side are asked to please leave out their blue recycle containers only and hopefully pickup will occur tomorrow.  We know that this issue is frustrating but please bear with us as we try to have the issue corrected.  We will again contact our District 8 Commissioner, Daniella Levine Cava and our contact with Public Works to see what else can be done about the issue.

Crime Watch Meeting: 2/19/2015

A Crime Watch meeting has been scheduled for February 19th at 7PM.  It will be held on the East side, main entrance parking lot.   Click Here for location.  We are asking that you make every effort to attend.  It is only because of those involved that we have been able to keep crime to a minimum and it is all due to those who participate in Crime Watch that this is possible.  Crime Watch doesn't work if you only get involved after you have become a victim of a crime.

As always, a Metro Dade Police Officer will be at the meeting to discuss crime trends in our area, statistics, news of interest as well as to answer any questions from attending residents.

Garbage, Recycle & Bulk Waste Pickup

Over the last several months we have been having issues with some homeowners leaving out their green garbage & blue recycle bins out past 7 PM on their scheduled pickup day.  Not including homeowners that have had to recently leave their blue recycle bins out due to non-pickup by the county on its scheduled date, there have been owners that have been leaving their bins out all week long.  Some owners are also placing their bins out in the middle of the road which is presenting an issue for motorists.

We have also been having issues with homeowners placing bulk trash out on the curb and not immediately calling Miami Dade County 3-1-1 for a pickup with some homeowners also leaving appliances with their doors still attached which is illegal.  Appliances left with their doors still attached will not be picked up by the county.  Please remember that you must immediately Contact Us of a bulky waste pickup by providing the 3-1-1 service request number or pickup number.

You can find out more information regarding Trash Pickup days & Bulky Waste pickup by Clicking Here.  There we outline what a homeowner's responsibilities are with regard to garbage collection.

Recycle Pickup Issues

After having received numerous complaints over the last few months regarding missed recycle pickups, some as recent as this Tuesday's Board meeting, we have contacted the office of our District 8 Commissioner, Daniella Levine Cava.  We spoke with one of her representatives and passed on your frustration regarding the issue. When pickups where missed on our regular pickup day, many of you called 311 letting them now that pickup was being missed for all 302 home in our community yet the problem continued to repeat.   The Commissioner's office promised to look into the matter for us and have contacted someone within the Public Works and Waste Management Department.  Hopefully the issue will be resolved soon.
