Crime Watch Meeting: 3/10/2016

A Crime Watch meeting has been scheduled for March 10th at 7PM.  It will be held on the West side, main parking on SW 111th Lane next to the park.   Click Here for location.  We are asking that you make every effort to attend.  It is only because of those involved that we have been able to keep crime low and it is all due to those who participate in Crime Watch that this is possible.  Crime Watch doesn't work if you only get involved after you have become a victim of a crime.  

As always, a Metro Dade Police Officer will be at the meeting to discuss crime trends in our area, statistics, news of interest as well as to answer any questions from attending residents.

Villa of the Quarter: March 2016

The Board of Directors recognizes members who go above and beyond in the upkeep of their villa within our community. These members are examples of the potential each home has when it is well maintained and also helps keep property values high which benefits everyone in the community. Ensuring the property values remain high is one of the primary concerns of any HOA and we are no exception. Just as last quarter, recent home sales in the community show that prices remain high and units that have been put up for sale are selling within weeks of listing. This just goes to show how desirable it is to buy into our community and homeowners that go above and beyond in the upkeep of their Villa are a big part of that.

The home chosen for the 1st Quarter of 2016 belongs to Barbara Simm who lives on 110th ST CIR North and is a long time resident of the community. As you pass by her home, you can immediately tell that she has a passion for Bromeliads. Her home is surrounded by them and are of all shapes and sizes. Her home is also very well maintained and her well manicured lawn, accentuated by bromeliads, and her perfectly sculpted tree really make her home stand out from those around it. On March 5th, 2016 the Board President & Vice-President presented the Devon-Aire Villas #1: Villa of The Quarter award in recognition of outstanding landscaping and villa upkeep as well as a $50 Cheese Cake Factory gift card to Mrs. Simm. The Board of Directors wishes to thank her for all the hard work she has put into her villa! We are proud to have you in the community.

District Commendation: Officer Mario Hernandez

At our March 1st Board Meeting, Officer Mario Hernandez of the Kendall District was honored by Commissioner Levine Cava, our District 8 Commissioner, on behalf of the Miami Dade County Board of County Commissioners with a District Commendation for consistently displaying integrity when safeguarding and protecting our streets. In particular he was commended for his response to an October 2015 carjacking that took place in the parking lot of a Winn Dixie located on Bird Road. Through his steadfast determination and police training, he, along with detectives, were able to recover the stolen SUV and able to apprehend the suspected perpetrator of the crime. He was also commended for his response to a call in Dadeland Mall back in December of 2015 during the busy holiday season. He, along with Officers Sierra, provided life saving CPR and assistance to an unresponsive 24 year old female who had overdosed until paramedics arrived. His quick response and determination saved the young woman's life.

The events cited above are only two of the many examples which exemplify this officer's professionalism, diligence and dedication during the execution of his duties. He is a credit to the Miami Dade County Police Department, the Kendall community and the residents of Devon-Aire are lucky to have him patrolling our streets.

On behalf of our membership, the Board of Directors of Devon-Aire Villas #1 would like to thank Commissioner Levine Cava, our District 8 Commissioner, as well as Maria Elena Levrant, Chief of Constituent Affairs, for taking time to honor Officer Hernandez with a District Commendation at our Board Meeting.
