The residents of Devon-Aire Villas HOA # 1 have organized a Citizen's Crime Watch. They meet every 4 months with MDPD to go over crime trends and meet on the West side parking spaces near the park. The purpose of the Citizen's Crime Watch program within Devon-Aire Villas is to create an alert neighborhood by using simple crime prevention methods. The program is simple and calls for neighbors to watch out for each other during the workday, evenings, vacations or any other absence. They aim to reduce crime through the mutual aid of the community residents who watch out for the property of their neighbors. To do that, they encourage neighbors to get to know each other, learn which types of cars belong in adjoining homes, and who does or does not belong in adjoining properties. A patrol officer driving by your home might not recognize someone as a stranger in your front yard, however an alert neighbor would recognize the person as a stranger and could then contact the MDPD non-emergency number of 305-476-5423 or dial 911 if its an emergency in order to alert police of the suspicious activity. Citizen's Crime Watch does not promote vigilantism. Members of the Citizen's Crime Watch program are never asked to put themselves in harm’s way to prevent crime. They should only observe and report suspicious activities to the Miami-Dade Police Department. This leaves the responsibility for confronting and apprehending criminals where it belongs—with our local law enforcement.
